Iowa, MN, and WI are hotbeds of rabies.
Skunks are the most common carriers there. Our vet recommended horses be
vaccinated when we lived there. Rabies is nothing to be fooled around with.
Frankly, I think rabies vaccinations
are cheap insurance. I'm not especially in favor of going around killing
off all the potential problem animals around because I think you end up with a
lot more problems if you destroy the balance, but I do favor vaccinating for
this terrible disease.
