Re: [RC] Bees get a bad rap?? - D'Arcy Demianoff-ThompsonI don't know if this has been covered or not. From my understanding hornets/yellow jackets are carnevoirs. Horses/humans are a source of meat. If that is the cause then I think all caution should be taken to protect yourselves and your horses! When we owned a boarding facility, in Hayward, CA, there were alot of yellow jackets. A boarder had a great, inexpensive, solution. Fill an empty, plastic, milk container, 1/3 of the way with water. Tie a piece of bacon on a stick and allowing the bacon to hang into the milk jug. You have to cut the opening to accommodate the width of the bacon. Tie the jugs to a tree 50+ feet from your horses area. The critters will be attracted to the concoction, dive in to eat until they can't move and fall into the jug drowning. Seriously it works. Maybe someone has a really good organic method or spray that one could use that will detract the critters and also help to protect your horse. From what I was able to learn about hornets/yellow jackets they dig tunnels in the ground and it's very hard to find them. Once you find the source you have to destroy them. D'Arcy L.
