Re: [RC] Deb Bennett's Article in Jan EN - Lynne GlazerAgreed, Kim. I don't start mine at rides till 6, but I don't have a lot of horses, and might not do LDs with new ones in the future. And they don't "have" to earn their keep, except to be pleasant companions. My 2 adults did not finish growing (taller) until 8, and the Lipizzans definitely don't stop till then, so the young'un cross (pictured in the EN article) will definitely be late to competition. She gets lots of cross-training like free-schooling and ponying, playing with tiny jumps and cavaletti--no work on a circle, but once we have a 60' round pen I will free-school in that. The 7 rides I managed, there were not many LD 4 year olds, most were 5 and older, with a lot from 6-9, as I scan the database. That article was wonderful reading in its entirety. I think it was http:// www.womenandhorses.com, the current newsletter.
