While a smaller horse might be quicker, it's antics are normally not as powerful or as fast as a bigger horse. The lever is longer on a bigger horse when it spins and you are on the end of the spinning lever hence you are moving much faster. My wife's first horse was a 14.1 paso that was built like a 50 gallon oil drum on legs. He could drop me on a dime at will. But that was normally it, I dropped right beside him. My mare was 15-3 and when she spooked I often ended up flung to the next county. Thank goodness she didn't spook much. I also don't necessarily buy that a smaller horse is quicker. I think that may be more illusion that real. A lot of times small point guards in basketball appear quicker. That is until they end up being guarded by someone like Michael Jordan who is tall and quicker, but because of the extra body - doesn't appear to be as quick.
