RE: [RC] opening gates? - Chelsea MarshI've got an even better solution. My riding buddy ( who I use to tower over by about a foot!) suddenly shot up and is now a lot bigger than me. I take him along to open gates! All of my riding buddies from when I was little have outgrown me! I grew at an only age, and then just suddenly stopped, barely making it at five foot five. I'm at a scrawny age too, and my dad laughs at me when I struggle to cinch up my Aussie saddle. I hate those English cinches! If I could demonstrate that I could handle the gate, I was allowed to ride alone in that area. I was pretty scrawny as a kid, and while I could always find an uphill side in this counntry to get back on my horse, it took a bit more thinking to conquer the gates. We were all required to carry a halter and leadrope on our saddles when we were kids, in case we had to stop and tie up anywhere for any reason, and when I was about 10, I figured out that I could take down that halter and buckle the headpiece around the gatepost, and then wrap the halter and lead around the end of the gate and use the whole thing like a block-and-tackle. Worked slick, and my independence took a giant leap! Heidi "Sky Ranch" <skyranch@xxxxxxxx> said: And it > takes all my strength to open and close (especially close) some of them. Oh good! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to huff and puff to maneuver those gates! -- Chelsea Marsh chelsea_marsh@xxxxxxxxxxx =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
