Re: [RC] 25 or 50? - rides2far@xxxxxxxxI have and will always ride a 25 for a horse's 'maiden race'. Even if I've done dozens of 'pre -race' 25's on that horse on a trail used by AERC. I'm the opposite. The last time I did a 25 was when I rode with a friend who needed my help, then elevated to finish the 50. I hadn't been in a 25 in 10 years and was really struck by how many new people I had to deal with who simply didn't know to stop when your horse was drinking, ask before passing, etc. It was awful and I was on an experienced horse. There are plenty of experienced "professional 25 milers" but they also have to deal with the majority of the people who don't know what they're doing yet and I don't want my young horse to have to deal with that. We waited a year before competing my daughter's horse to make sure he was ready to go right into 50's. No 25's for him.
