Re: [RC] First 25 mile ride - Truman PrevattI'll take odds. My first ride, the horse in front of us bucked so "monkey see monkey do!"While your trail rides may include other horses - they may or may not include other horses snorting and pawing to be down the trail. They probably don't have your horse seeing horses far down the trail (which he will probably want to catch) or horses coming up from behind want to pass. I have found a very good way to get a new horse used to all they will see on an endurance ride - only in controlled amounts. No it is not starting late in an LD. No it is not a CTR - a CTR can IMO blow a brain on a brand spanking new horse faster than any other format - it is at a hunter pace. We have a lot in our area because we have a lot of fox hunters in our area. You start when you want. Start early for fewer riders, start later for more. The hunter pace is now integral to my program to introduce my new horse to horses way off in the front (we just must catch) horses coming up from behind (daring to pass us) and all sorts of other things, like horses jumping beside us, cows, wild life, a dirt airstrip with planes coming and going, etc. Truman Chelsea Marsh wrote: Hi! I am new to ridecamp and while I have never done an limited/endurance ride I've done 25 miles plenty of times just in a trail ride. I am thinking about doing the Wickenburge ride in Arizona this January. My question is this, my Arab tends to be pretty high strung, and while I have ridden her with groups of horses a lot, is she going to go beserk on me at an endurance ride? I hope this doesn't sound dumb, and I know it's kind of hard to give an answer without knowing the horse, however any tips would help. What can I do to make sure that I won't lose control of her in a large group of horses in riders? -- "Life is about obstacles. Endeavors in life are not to be overlooked.
