First, congrats on the two finishes! yeah!
Any reason why he doesn't have hay on the trailer ride to the ride?
I doubt the lack of work had much to do with this.
I'd make sure he gets plenty to eat on the trailer ride. I always start my horse's trip with a bowlful of wet beet pulp mash in the trailer to keep him hydrated. And he's always got hay available. Not only does it keep their guts moving, but keeps their minds occupied too so they don't stress so much.
did you give him any electrolytes before during or after the ride?
