Alberta did a 24 hoour ride Re: Is 100 miles in one day too much? RE: [RC] WEG 2006 - CTH

I managed a ride much like that one years ago and I am planning on one for this spring.
Endurance Riders of Alberta runs like an independent AERC for the last 26 years. It was sanctioned by them.
4 horses one rider. (takes away from your idea of one horse one rider but it could be changed. Now I am having ideas for another ride)
13 mile loop , 4 horses , one rider. per team
Basic rules. Ride as far as you can in 24 hors.
Horses had a mandatory hold after 26 miles of 1/2 hour. Horses could do no more then 2 loops in a row.
Riders could not leave until the horse they came in on pulsed down. If a horse was pulled the rider lost that loop and the horse NO MATTER WHAT could not be used again. It was out.
There were about 10 teams entered.
218 miles won the ride and completed 4 horses.
The winner was the only one to complete 4 horses.
It was a very strange day weather wise. We had rain, snow , high winds , warm in the day time for awhile. Cloud cover making the night very black
The crew had the worst of it. Saddling and walking horses in the mud continuously. 5 pounds of mud stuck to each boot.
The riding was the easy part.
I think later in the year I will look at 1 horse one rider as far as can be rode in 12 hours.
Just need to work out the details. Any suggestions are welcome.
ERA will look at sanctioning it. That is the nice part of our independance as a provincial organizaton. We can try things out of the norm.
