The one thing these two regions have in common is LD has been an integral part of endurance riding in both regions for quite some time. We have been giving LD BC the same as endurance, shudder counting finishing time, and our ride managers have been giving LD placement. So you are alsolutely correct - treating LD as an integral part of endurance has not brought on the downfall as civilization as we know it. The interesting question is how two regions that are about as far apart geographically as you can get - eveolved basically to the same point.
