It's very hard to hold LD rides during
multidays. Usually the multiday rides have big loop rides - 50 miles - and
often only 1 vet check at the half way point. To hold an LD ride, you have to
have a trail that returns to camp at 25 or 30 miles and has a vetcheck somewhere
around 15 miles. Almost impossible to do this on a loop ride. Though I think
Death Valley offers LD rides - you just ride to the mid-way point of the 50, and
arrange to trailer your horse back to base camp.
My point is - sometimes it's not just a matter of
choice when multiday rides don't have LD divisions. It's simply a logistical
problem.
