Re: [RC] AERC Championship: 50 Mile Information - John TeeterI can only speculate (which of COURSE I hate to do!!:) that there is a need to get things closed up early in the evening. The awards banquet is scheduled for 6pm and there is a mandatory "you gotta be outa here" at 10am Monday for all rigs. But I'm only guessing. the first 2.5 hours in the dark will be a challenge. and the pulse gate at 9 miles in the dark will be a challenge as well! Yes, a sunrise start would be nice. Tom's other comment was that the 20 min hold 1 mile from the finish was a problem for the vocal SE group!!:) He told me that the OD instituted that hold after he (Tom) had a race off that was very dangerous (against Lindsy ?? ... have to get Tom to tell the story!). When they use the Hickory Lane finish, they have to have a hold 1 mile out. Then a race to the finish - definitely favors the horses that have quick pulse recoveries. jt At 08:24 PM 10/21/2006, you wrote: Why are they starting the 50 in the dark? The weather's cool...plenty of time to finish...what's their motive? They could easily start at 7:30 and have 12 hrs. of daylight!
