Thanks, Beverly, for your explanation of why I always seem to need to pee a lot early in rides, especially cold ones. It's kind of a catch 22 isn't it: more urine being created but also the need for extra hydration in cold and altitude. Darn!

Ah, you're describing physiological process of "cold diuresis." It's the opposite of sweating, where water is evaporated out the skin. In the cold, blood is shunted away from the periphery (hands, feet, skin, superficial tissues) and into the central regions of the body, including the kidneys. When the kidneys get more blood, they produce more urine.

Important to have extra hydration in cold and at altitude.
