RE: [RC] [RC] Leaving horse's buddy behind to go to rides - Jennifer AdamHi -I had a horse that hated to be alone too. He would holler and buck and carry on something fierce! So I took it slow - the first couple of days I just took the other horse out of the pasture (within sight) and rode her for a few minutes. Then I put her back so he could check her out. Sometimes I took him out for a few minutes and did the same thing (he would act up when he was alone in the pasture *and* on the trail) - just a few minutes of riding. Then I gradually increased the time apart and the distance apart. I did *lots* of circles - riding out of sight, then back into sight. It took me several months, but eventually I could leave him alone and ride him alone without too much trouble. Unfortunately he had some other issues that weren't quite as easy to deal with so I had to sell him to someone who was willing to handle all his "quirks" - *but* I did manage to take care of his buddy-sour behavior! Just be patient - give your horse time to adjust to the new situation, then start teaching him that he *can* survive on his own for a few hours, or even a couple of days, at a time! JMHO :) Good luck, Jen _________________________________________________________________ Find a local pizza place, music store, museum and more?then map the best route! http://local.live.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
