Re: [RC] To riders who compete on club footed endurance horses - beckegI started PJ when she was 4 in 25 mile competitive rides. We progressed to 50 and 100 mile rides. She was at her best around age 10 -12 when she completed a 100 miles ride in 10 hours.
I have tried egg bar shoes, pads and anything else that might help. They all worked for about 2-3 months and then the non-club foot would lose heel.
What I found was a farrier (actually several of them) that would trim her every 4 weeks and balance the hoof. She is now 17 and with almost 4000 endurance miles, her age and malformation is beginning to tell on her. She will continue to compete in the future, just on a limited scale.

I am researching club footed horses and their career longevity/soundness as related to endurance, specifically 50-mile rides ridden at a non-competitive pace (to finish within allotted time).
I am interested in learning about successful management and conditioning procedures.
Thank you.
