The only time I got a rub from a crupper was when I made it too tight. 
For some reason (DIMR?) I thought it looked loose at a ride, and took it 
up a notch which made it snug.  Bummer.

When I'm riding on level ground (or uphill, of course) the crupper is 
hanging a bit below the base of his tail, not in contact.  YMMV.

I wouldn't think you'd want it "sloppy loose" but I don't want a 
constant pull either.
