I disagree on this one. May be different with different brands but the OF becomes a big loop that just lays over to the side with no tension on it and doesn't really touch the sensitive areas. Constant tension would definitely cause more chafing in my opinion...not to mention, it doesn't give the horse room to tuck his butt as he heads down hill. I want it snug once he's fully tucked.

The only time I got a rub from a crupper was when I made it too tight. For some reason (DIMR?) I thought it looked loose at a ride, and took it up a notch which made it snug. Bummer.


When I'm riding on level ground (or uphill, of course) the crupper is hanging a bit below the base of his tail, not in contact. YMMV.

I wouldn't think you'd want it "sloppy loose" but I don't want a constant pull either.
