When you measure from the middle of the knee, don't go all the way to the ground, go to the coronet band. That is pretty accurate.
 

 
 
 
I have tried elbow measurements,and knee measurements....and the middle of knee to ground indicates I should have
18h horses! I just can't seem to find the exact middle of the knee on all horses.
