[RC] [RC] OT-Big win for horses in the House! - sherman
I was just thinking along these lines since there are
cultures within this country that do consider dogs edible. I think the
difference is that almost everyone has a dog or cat & understands that
there is not a suitable home for every one of them, and that at some point in
their life, they may need to be put down due to old age, severe injury or
illness. Most pet owners have had to deal with that. OTOH, very few of the US’s total
population have ever owned a horse and don’t understand the need for some
of them to be disposed of in a humane manner. They don’t understand
disabling disease, rank, aggressive behaviors, old age that owners don’t
have the finances to manage properly, etc. These people just romanticize horses
and horse ownership and think they can all just go running free somewhere. I have
no problem with most animals being used for human consumption, not that I would
eat it, but I don’t consider it a moral issue at all.

Why is it that people love to jump on the bandwagon against
horse slaughter, but I don't see them screaming about animal shelters putting
down thousands of dogs and cats across the country on a daily basis. At least
horses are able to be used as a food source to feed someone.
