I just wanted to mention that AERC
has a New Rider Briefing outline available for use for AERC ride managers. For the past few years, some rides have
offered this type of briefing before or after their regular ride meeting.Having a newbie briefing has been very
successful and is a really nice way to welcome new riders to the sport. It also helps keeps the regular ride
meeting short and focused on the trail description and the vetting
criteria.
To keep the NRB from being addition work
for ride managers the night before a ride, AERC is encouraging experienced AERC
members to volunteer to give the new rider briefing. This is a great way to give back to the
sport and welcome new riders to AERC. Volunteering to give the newbie briefing
also doesn?t take a lot of time.It
is designed to take around ½ hour or less. The NRB is in outline form so the volunteer giving the briefing wouldn?t
even have to start from scratch yet could adapt the material to fit the needs of
riders in their particular region.A volunteer wouldn?t have additional travel costs because they could
volunteer to give the briefing at a ride they are attending. This is a wonderful way to share your
enthusiasm for the sport of endurance riding.
If you are interested in
participating in this program either as a volunteer or if you are a ride manager
and would like to have NRB at your upcoming ride, please contact the AERC
educational committee or your region?s mentor liaison. The New Rider Briefing is available on
the AERC webpage under the ride manager?s link (http://www.aerc.org/NewRiderBriefings.pdf).
