Re: [RC] RACE FEES AND VETTNG - Horse ElinoreL.TonsorRecently, at the Wildcat Rides in Wisconsin, a horse was injured with a stick that impaled it's hoof near the cornet band. Dr. Ketover did some immediate work on the horse, but after that days rides were over, he did extensive work on the horse to remove all parts of the stick. It's my understanding that the rider/owner was charged for the drugs/materials used. It's been my experience in the Midwest that riders are charged that way. The veterinarian is already being paid to be there. While he/she certainly shouldn't be expected to give out the contents of his/her vet truck for free, they certainly shouldn't be paid twice for the same time spent, and most in the Midwest don't expect to be. If a person enters an AERC race, and their horse needs vetting like electrolytes or injury aren't they beilled for vet work other than the regular vet checks at the beg and end of rides?
