Re: [RC] Ridecamp and AOL ?/supracor ? - Barbara McCraryI quit AOL years ago when I tried to get help uploading a website for our ride. After being shuffled through a lot of departments and phone connections, the last connection I was sent to turned out to be a porn location. I was frosted!!!I signed on to a local ISP who were very good until I tried to get DSL (which they offered) but the phone company wouldn't help there. Our line came in from a direction where the nearest remote terminal was 5 miles away. There is a remote terminal within the limited distance, but our line does not feed in from that direction. Consequently, our neighbors, about 1/4 mile away have DSL, but I can't get it. Frustration..... So I went to Wildblue, who is a satellite service. We have a small dish on our roof, and while satellite service is not as fast as DSL, it's tons faster than dial-up. I was able to see the streaming video of the WEC in Aachen. And I'm on the slowest of the three program options Wildblue offers ($50/month). If I wanted 3 X faster, it would cost me $80/month. I wouldn't touch AOL again with a 10-foot pole. I had AO-hell for years. We finally changed over to charter a few years ago and my email and internet life are immeasurably better. I miss the arabian message board, but the tradeoff of a real browser and email are more than worth it. When I go to my mom's and have to use AOL I want to stick a fork in my eye. No more signing on, dealing with them and their inept help lines. I have not had 1 problem with my service since switching-when I think of all the time I used on the phone trying to fix their issues!!!
