Re: [RC] Lincoln Trail 100 - Horse ElinoreL.TonsorTitle: Re: [RC] Lincoln Trail 100 Susan,I have to ask you a few questions in regards to your statements about riding "repeat" trails. 1. How many rides do you manage - that is find the trail, coordinate vet checks, mark the trail, unmark the trail, financially back the ride, hire the vets, order the awards, plan and prepare the meals? 2. What do you consider a repeat? Is riding a trail out 25 miles, then turning around and riding it back a repeat? 3. Do you want to have all your vet checks in camp? (I've had people furious with me because all of the vet checks aren't in camp on my 100 mile ride.) Because, it's pretty close to impossible to have all the vet checks in camp with no repeats. There are currently 4 one-day 100 mile rides in the Midwest region. AERC has expressed concern about the few 100 milers available in the country. People who are willing to put on a 100 mile ride aren't doing it because it's easy. Putting on a 100 is very hard work, and finding and coordinating a trail is a big part of that work. Sometimes repeats are impossible to avoid. Riders need to understand that if you don't support the rides that are out there now, you'll lose them, and they won't be there to ride later on. Gotta ask you, where do you condition that you never have to repeat trail? ET
Don't know for sure about the 100 but "ve done the 30 there and it's very easy terrain with very little rocks or gravel. Elevation changes are maybe 100' with 2 major hills of 100 ft with minor ups and downs and not that many of them. The loop is one 15 mile trail which is fairly accurate in length. The 100's will do an extra length of trail in addition to the 6 repeats of the same trail. No could pay me enough to make me or my horse repeat the same trail 6x. JMHO. I can't even bring myself to do the 60 because of the repeating stuff
