Re: [RC] [RC] Drugs and Riding - - rides2far@xxxxxxxxFinally, the FEI does provide for some exceptions for athletes with >>medical necessity and who have petitioned for an exemption. A common example would be an asthmatic competitor with a rescue inhaler. At the PAC in Vermont 2001 they asked competitors to write down any medications we took. There was an uproar, (not from me..I'd had my knee *injected*) They weren't going to enforce anything at that time but it was clear they were headed that direction. One of the things the riders were very concerned about was the chance of getting in bees. I doubt they deal with that in show jumping. When my horse hit bees going into the 1st vet check, I thought about their concerns. As it turned out, that was one ride where I did hit the drugs. By 25 miles or so I had *seering* pain in my shin, I think from all the downhill trotting. Felt like I was really peeling a shin splint. I came into the vet check and said, "I need drugs" and got offered a lot. I just took some Tylenol 3 & put duct tape around my shin (outside tights). I think the duct tape helped most...to tell the truth, I've had better luck with mechanical cures on everything. Back hurts...move stirrups, new stirrup pads, different saddle to get my feet under me. Knees hurt? Narrower horse, different stirrup setting, etc. I tried the Celebrex & injection route for a while, then quit all that and just changed the way I ride and quit wearing shoes that were broke down (I walk on the outside of my feet). Much better results. Angie =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
