We all agree the they are the future of the sport "
We all have
heard that refrain for many years. I have been hearing it for over 25 of those
years and have yet to see it materialize.
The AERC has
done many questionnaires and, as always, the results come out that belie such a
belief.
While it is a
very good thing to have our juniors participating, it is not a very good thing
to expect the future of the AERC to hinge on these riders.
Yes, there are
a few that can be noted as moving up through the ranks, so to speak, but the
future of endurance riding based in the junior program? Sadly it does not hold
up.

I like seeing the kids pictures on the cover. You
know the ones with the big smile on their face that just seems to tell it all.
We all agree the they are the future of the sport and it means much more to
them. It's something they will save and cherish for the rest of their lives,
take to school, and show their friends. I wouldn't mind if the cover photo
never had a rider on it over 18 years old.
If you think about it, none of us well over 18
are so vain that we would really care. Just my 2 cents worth.
