Re: [RC] First attempt at Tevis - Diane TrefethenI won't flame you, Lee, and yes, using the crop was probably not right. Still, there isn't a one of us who hasn't been carried away by adrenaline or for some other reason exercised less than perfect judgment at some point in our Endurance careers. We all make mistakes. It is the unthinking repetition of those mistakes that is callous and cruel. There is also the possibility that this particular horse is one that must be encouraged with a crop... they do exist. Ask any Pony Clubber. So shocked? No. Had the horse been beaten and/or bloodied, that would have been shocking, beyond the pale. The rest of the rider's post shows concern for Sinatra and regret for having asked so much, "I cried a little (am now in fact), he tried so HARD for me! I can't believe I even asked him for that, and he did it, he gave me everything he had." So, without knowing the horse or the rider, and having been in a few glass houses myself, I'd prefer not to throw any stones. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
