RE: [RC] Tevis Low Completion - Jim HollandThat's exactly why you TRAIN your horse on the stuff you expect to encounter before you put him out there in harm's way at a ride. Some time back I was talking to Claude Brewer from the SE who trailered out to do Tevis a few years ago. It's fun to ride with Claude because you get some really interested stories....sometimes I wonder, tho... <grin> Claude was talking about Tevis and telling this story about some lady who rode the entire ride, but didn't finish because her horse wouldn't cross the American River. Duh! Didn't do her homework! Jim, Sun of Dimanche+, and Mahada Magic Richard T. My dad got off to walk her across. She kept looking then decided to jump it! She gathered herelf together, back feet to front. Kept gathering herself together (guess he was working up the umph and the nerve). Then she just became overbalanced and did a beautiful nose dive right into the creek! I felt so sorry for her. That was many years ago circa 1956! I can still remember it and get a laugh. Though I also was worried about injury. She seemd fine and we vetted her when she got home. No problems. That's one of the most dangerous times, when you are trying to lead your horse across an obstacle that they are frightened of. When they finally jump it they often overdo it, and then land right on you. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.chiprider.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
