RE: [RC] Crandell and Asgard bred "Heraldic" win the Haggin Cup - heidiI'm pleased to see people actually recognizing the breeder of the
horse as having a hand in his wins. I'd only add that many of the
past winners have also been bred by people specifically breeding for
equine athletes, and I'd hope that this raises the awareness of the
efforts of those dedicated breeders over the years. Although
I don't have all of them at my fingertips, both Bend of the River Ranch
(Lois Russell, same breeder who bred AERC Hall of
Fame's RT Muffin) and The New Albion Stud (Michael Bowling) have
bred Tevis winners in the past few years, in very intentional breeding
programs aimed at raising the sorts of horses capable of doing just
that.
The second and third place horses were both grandsons of Tevis winner
Bezatal, to boot.
