Jim's right.  No need to light it.  Gasoline is very effective unlit.

As to Diazinon, the little creeps made a hole under my Peach tree. 
Diazinon is systemic and contra-indicated for anything to be consumed.  But 
Malathion concentrate diluted to about 5x the recommended strength worked 
just fine :)
