RE: [RC] Fw: [RideManagers_of_AERC] Race of Champions? - heidiActually, what many liked was not a one-ride-winner-take-all.
That IS the current system, Truman. So I'm not sure what it is
you are complaining about. With our one-ride "championship" (no
matter how much hoopla Steph puts into it), there really ISN'T anything
to differentiate an AERC champion from an FEI-style champion. And
some of us really DON'T like that sort of system.
I got in on this thread late, and didn't read some of the earlier
posts--but the champions that most of us remember are the ones who were
in our ride results all year long. They were the ones who made "to
finish is to win" a real motto--they could be the champion without ever
being first place on a ride, simply by finishing more miles.
I love a winner as much as the next guy--but a one-race winner
to may of us is not a champion. To be a real champion
in this sport, a horse and rider need to persevere ("endure" if you
will--what a concept!) for MANY miles, and still come home able to go
again. THAT is what the AERC used to be about--and that is one
reason that it has lost its luster for many of us.
