However, when someone states that he considers a horse dying a WORSE scenario than a kid dying, that person deserves whatever censure comes his way. Call it a glimpse into his psyche. Call it what you like. Passion never excuses despicable behavior. It can explain it, but excuse? Never. Truman has had and surely will continue to have good ideas, ones which can improve the well-being of our sport. Lamenting that a horse died instead of a child isn't one of them and that is the image that, at least for me, is etched on my brain, an image that will taint everything he has to say in the future. And as long as Ridecampers see him as a person who believes a child deserves to die for jumping his horse, he will continue to be perceived as unreasonable, cruelly cold. He owes the parents of that child a heart-felt apology. He owes US no less.
