That's exactly what I was thinking!!!  As I was reading all these posts 
about dogs riding on horseback it made me think of when our Mischief was a 
foal.  Jeff (my husband) spent time every single day with Mischief and they 
definitely developed a very strong bond together.  One day Jeff was going to 
ride my mare (Mischief's mom) in the pasture for a few minutes, and Mischief 
watched him mount up and then tried to hop right up with him!  He just 
couldn't figure out why his daddy should be doing anything without him!
