Re: [RC] Horse management in excessive heat - Jeannie GillenLiving in "cattle country" I was told by the cowboys that horses need loose salt, as they don't have the same rough tongue as a cow, and therefore don't usually get the salt they need from a salt lick. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Suzanne Boyd" <suzboyd@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, July 18, 2006 2:06 PM Subject: [RC] Horse management in excessive heat Rhonda, have you ever tried offering loose salt? I keep a pan of loose salt inside my barn, out of the weather, and my guys all prefer that over the salt block that I also provide(because I'm anal!) Actually, I've had the same salt block for about 3 years, they don't use it much. I've been doing this for years, and they eat it year-round, but I really notice them eating it in the hot, humid months. I also keep a pan of Buckeye Grass Plus minerals for them, and they go through about a pound a day(4 horses) Suzanne(in hot/humid Ohio) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
