RE: [RC] Barbaro - Kristen A FisherThe leg was a mess - like a bag of crushed ice in some views. I downloaded some of the x-rays and can send you one if you want [it's 1MB]. There was some speculation in something that I read that his heel may have been clipped by another horse but I don't know where they went with that. If you look at the x-rays you can see it looks like a spiral fracture [from stepping down and twisting] so my guess is, it was really a bad step that torqued the wrong way, and the associated load bearing caused the multiple fractures. "Shattered" gives the impression of a virtual explosion of the leg. Did the leg fail that totally or did it sustain just a single fracture or were there multiple fractures and "shattered" was just hyperbole? Regardless of the degree of failure, does anyone here have thoughts on the cause of such a breakdown? Genetically deficient? Insufficient conditioning? Diet deficient in the nutrients to build "strong teeth and strong bones"? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
