There are distinct requirements (must wear polo shirts with collars) and I believe all team members of each country wear matching apparel. Which is OK for this type of event, but there are some things that are being carried too far. I would be perfectly happy to see the USA pull out of international competition all together, if this is the way we are heading....i.e. permanent training camps, etc. But then, who am I to say? I haven't ridden internationally since my one time in 1985 in Austria, when it was far more laid back than it has become. I didn't make any friends in international circles when I was a steward in Alberta, Canada and I balked when someone suggested that AERC run all its rides by FEI standards. I was criticized, and my answer was that AERC riders didn't WANT to conduct all their rides under FEI rules. Can those of you who have ridden The Duck's rides picture them being run under FEI rules? Or picture him buying this idea?So, I'd better shut up on this subject before I dig a deeper hole than the one I have already started.... Shoot, if I was interested in a sport like that I would be riding around an arena in glittery show clothes with hoof polish on my horse instead of boots and a heart rate monitor!
