RE: [RC] shoeing/Xrays - Mike Sherrell"Too far back" -- my farrier, who's kind of crude, rasps off some of the front of the toe so that it's got a little vertical on the front maybe 1/4" high at the very front. I.e., the shoes are therefore rounder, not as long and narrow as the unrasped foot would be. Is this bad, do you think? Most of the time, (assuming there's been no laminitis) Xrays are taken to see if there's alot of extra toe out there.. but I had an experienced farrier set the shoes too far back on one of my horses one time, and the horse couldn't walk out into the yard after he was finished. The horse had to have a month off, took 2 months to straighten out. Maybe you should go over to horseshoes.com, and ask if there's a farrier in your area, that has worked from xrays before. They really screwed him up. :-P I want to do this right. Farriers...do they help you any? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
