On the subject of TV, we do have to remind ourselves that the good stuff lasted as reruns, and the dross went away.  So it's a lot easier to "remember" the good stuff.

TV has been mentioned as having deteriorated since the '60's.  That prompted
me to Google "vast wasteland", I found:

So at least one person considered TV to be as bad as I remember it in the
50's and 60's
