While I wasn't there at the creation (I'm not that freggin old), I think 
the names comes from Solar Corona rather than the Mexican beer.

But the fact that from Sputnik in 1957 which was no more than a tin can 
with antenna and a radio inside beeping back to earth a mere 3 years 
later the US put a working camera in space and recovered the film 
canisters by catching them with an airplane! You think technology today 
moves fast - just think about that feat.
