Many farmers will put higher quality hay into square bales for horses and the lesser quality hay in round bales for horses. Round bales should be fine if they are quality "horse hay." I know some farmers that actually take it our of the field in round bales and have this machine they put the round bales on to produce square bales. It's much faster to do round bales.
