I think it would be a cool idea too - but I think mustangs could do it too. 
There are several thousand wild mustangs being held awaiting adoption at any 
given time, and perhaps a mounted border patrol idea would give them a 
purpose. Although not all of them would be suitable, mustangs are generally 
hardy, intelligent, sure-footed, and intelligent. They - like the Arabs - 
are very aware of their surroundings and are particularly sensitive to 
things that "don't belong." I know several search and rescue teams pride 
themselves on their mustangs and I've spoken with mounted policemen who 
liked their mustangs so well they adopted more for their unit. Like I said 
before, they may not match the Arab on the endurance trail, but they deserve 
at least a little credit! :)
