New career opportunities for the American icon -

There are several state prison programs where inmates on good behavior work 
with wild mustangs, gentling them and sometimes starting them under saddle 
(ex: Colorado, California, Kansas). And there are several therapeutic 
programs that match troubled teens with wild horses. Plus, mustangs (already 
trained) are used in therapeutic riding programs all over the country. 
People with issues seem to relate to frightened wild horses and find the 
bonding process very healing. I've actually looked into beginning a similar 
program on my farm, but the insurance and liability issues were 
prohibitively expensive. I've been working with mustang advocates to expand 
opportunities for people with mustangs and to develop grants for programs 
such as these. Mustangs may not match Arabs on the endurance trail, but I 
think they're pretty durn cool anyway. <G>
