Re: [RC] Question about hives - Diane TrefethenHi Dot,Sometimes injecting a chemical into a horse, whether it be a vaccination or a medication, can set the horse up for an allergic reaction to something else. I have a horse who has never had a problem with ticks. RIGHT after a series of antibiotics shots he started developing raised swellings at every site that a tick attached, even if only briefly. These hive-like bumps did not subside for weeks, some oozed fluids. Steroids helped but there were more ticks here (Mariposa) than I have money for steroids. I THINK winter has cured the problem but his spring coat looks funny, spots of thick grey hair on a background of thin grey hair so he looks grey where the black skin shows and has white spots where the hair is thick. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
