Re: [RC] Lactic Acid - Truman Prevatt

We saw a great drama played out in the late 60's to mid 70's men's track. Jim Ryun - trained to what would have been the "Tom Ivers protocol" vs. Kip Keno of Kenya. Ryun was one of the first "scientifically trained" distance runners. All other coaches (including mine) minimics his coach. Ryun was the first high school runner to break the 4 minute mile. He held the record for the high school mile until recently. The use of intervals to build the use of lactic acid as a fule, the use of training methods to build the muscle substrate for distance at speed, etc.

Kip Keno, the Kenya who ran for miles and miles on the high plateau of Kenya - no fancy training. The outcome of the races, Ryun no gold metals - Keno several in everything from the 1500 meter, 1500 meter steaplechase, etc. . His son following in his footsteps winning at least one Boston marathon. Not that Ryun wasn't a great runner - but somethimes it's just in the genes.
