RE: [RC] my mustang hates dogs - Christina SchiroDogs need to learn to stay a comfortable distance away from horses, both your pet dogs, the neighbors dog, and stray dogs. Most people have the reverse problem with their horses bolting in fear when a dog approaches. We ride is a rural neighorhood filled with loose scary chasing dogs. If a dog charged up to us, I HOPE my horse kicks the s%@& out of that dog, if it gets close enough to my horses' hooves. Luckily we haven't had to go that far as I am proactive and when a dog gets to the road and starts chasing us, I turn my horse around, trot after it, while I yell and scream at the dog and tell my horse we are going to kill that dog (gives the horse (and me) confidence as we have come across some scary dogs). Has worked 100% of time so far. As long as the dogs are staying out kicking distance, they are fine and your horse should behave by listening to you. If the dog is within kicking distance, the dog is fair game. It will
only take contact once or twice (maybe three times for the stupid dog) to learn their lesson, and that's the only way they'll learn. For the viscious dogs, hope your horse kicks and stuns them without breaking a stride, then you can run and call Animal Control.
