I'm still quite the newbie, but when (yeah, i'm a little optimistic here
considering i've only done 7 LDs) i do a 100, i would feel cheap if I was
allowed to take 50 miles completion and run with it. I tried, and for
whatever reason, the trail beat me. Accept it - shit happens - and next
time, make sure you beat the trail. :-)

So to be successful in ANY attemp. There has to be a measurable outcome of
sucess. Therefore, ALL who attemps, succeeds in some way. Failure never
ensures sucess. This, not only, includes ENDURANCE RIDING, but all life
challenges. AERC should award completions of miles completed even though the
50 was entered and only 25 got done. Aerc should award completions of miles
completed even though 100 was entered and only 50 or 75 got done. Of course,
the horse has to be fit to continue at ALL times. Then, all riders paying
ride management dollars to ride the ride, will be successful in their
attempt at their chosen distance. There are no losers and everyone has a
successful measurable outcome. Drive home with credited miles rode and
feeling more tolerable of the $$$$paid to get there. Buddy
