Re: [RC] 100's - rides2far@xxxxxxxx

Maybe it's time we each examine what goes through our heads as we think
about, talk about and participate in endurance riding and all >>it's
preparation.

OK I'm game. Here's what's up with me. I've had a hard time lately getting up
the want to to saddle a horse and ride...because my horse has met his goals and
deserves to retire...and I haven't found a new horse. Every day I'd think "I
ought to go ride" and it just seemed too cold, or wet, or I had too much else
to do...because there was really no REASON to ride. I was actually getting
worried that I'd lost my drive and my days as an endurance rider might be in
danger of winding down. Then...last week, my daughter Josie, after a year and a
half of being the only person who EVER sat on her new horse's back, decided I
could help her condition him since she has sports practices year around. I feel
like a new person. I have a GOAL. I always said the reason I did endurance was
because it gave me a reason to ride every day. Even if I'd already seen the
trail a thousand times I could be working on higher heart rates, or better
impulsion, it stays interesting.

So...now we have "this week's goals"... to maintain the trot up the hills and
keep a steady pace. Then we've got "this Spring's goals"...maybe to go to a
first 50. Then there's "this year's goal" oh...maybe 200 miles competition.
Then there's Next 3 year's goal...1000 miles and first 100. Next would be
perhaps some speed and top 10's...etc.

The act of riding a 100 is cool...but the fact that planning to do it makes me
enjoy training at home and do it often, is why I REALLY do it!
