Hello Tom,
Nice post. I tried Tevis once and was overtime at Francisco's (85mi) 
and Swanton75 once and pulled at 55mi so I'm not in the 100miler 
category yet but nobody was hurt (tired & slight limp) it just wasn't 
our day. I will try again and I agree with your assessment that 
riding the trail with your horse and friends is the real reward, even 
if you don't finish.
