[RC] Charlene/Kiger ? - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Jeanne Pepper pepperja@xxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== Because of the age of your horse and it's lack of a BLM brand I 'd say chances are very slim that she's a kiger. They haven't been bred in captivity for that many years to have produced one that old so she would have been branded if she was adopted from the wild. Also, coloring alone does not make a mustang a "kiger" which only refers to a very small group from a specific management area in Oregon. Not all kigers from that area are dun, mine is a bay(but has" frills")but one registry only allows dun kigers to be papered making them primarily a color registry(KMA),kinda like "paints".Your horse couldn't be registered with them even if she was adopted from the right herd because she has white on her...not allowed by them.Unfortunately lots of politics have sprung up over the years around these horses because they are rare and have been sold for many thousands of dollars.Money often clouds the issue but they are really unusual horses with lots going on for them besides their splashy coloring. The markings you describe are found on many types of mustangs and even on domestically bred horses.I once saw a "Canadian Quarter Horse"that looked like a dun zebra it had SOOOOO many leg stripes. You can find out all you ever wanted to know (and more,I'm sure!) by going on line. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
