Re: [RC] Why We Don't Need Elevator Rides - Truman PrevattWe went where no man had ever gone before. Chuck Yeager was dropped out of an airplane with a rocket strapped to his ass just to show man could go faster than the speed of sound. Gagurian and Glenn got shot into space just to prove man could go into space. We walked on the moon.We stepped up to 100's with a gusto and took them on - no holds bared and not excaused. If we didn't make it, we'd make it next time. I remember Lawton Johnston - noone really knew how old he was - running OD after OD having over 10 buckles. I remember talking to him after the he got pulled at 80 at the Biltmore several years ago talking about his upcoming trip to do the Tevis. He died three days later in his sleep - age got him, but he was still out there running 100's. I bet Lawton is rolling over in his grave hearing about this de-elevator concept. You are absolutely correct we don't need to "dumb down the 100." If it is worth preserving - it's worth preserving as envisioned by the people that rode the first 100 mile endurance ride - probably on a bet and probably durnk! There are no excuses - just do it.
