Re: [RC] Tents vs LQ - Linda S. FlemmerMel, My husband and I have done endurance & CTR since the mid 1980's and we have always either camped in a tent or slept in the back of the trailer on a cot. We did so as we simply couldn't afford a LQ trailer until recently. (We're shopping for one this Spring!) The cons to tent camping: The cold weather rides were tough - 20's F at night is a little cold for me to tent camp. If it snows or the water buckets freeze at night, I'm just not happy in a tent. Rigs pulling in late at night often couldn't see us well. I can remember hearing a BIG rig pulling in at midnight & somebody calling out that they should watch the little green tent by their left wheel. THAT WAS US! We've almost been run down by a loose horse at night. Now we set up the tent so we are sandwiched between the truck & trailer for more safety. Pro's: You can hear the horses all night. Easier to get in & out for me than the back of a truck. It's inexpensive & we already had most of the equipment. It doesn't take much space to pack. I have been reading and noticing that most of you seem to have LQ trailers. I was thinking that when I actually make it to a ride, I would camp in my tent. Am I going to be the only *ijit* out there "roughing it?" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
