[RC] ride questions?? - Alissa CowanJuli,You sound like me!! I love my endurance friends, and I love managing endurance rides. But every time I think about actually DOING a ride I think "too complicated, I'd have to buy so much STUFF, I don't have time to condition, etc, etc." Right now my current mount (a TB/Percheron cross) is not going to do endurance. So we're spending the summer doing other things for the first time - like I am going to my first horse trial in a few weeks. I am terrified already! But I think taking that leap might eventually make me think - hey, I did that scary horse trial thing, so I can probably do this scary endurance thing, too. SO - maybe next year I'll have a slightly more suitable for endurance horse, and perhaps you'll see me out at an LD or a CTR in Maryland or Pennsylvania! I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet some time and just DO IT. I have way too much fun volunteering at rides with my friends to not jump in and ride myself some day. As far as numbers of rides in the NE - Sharon is right - it does seem like there's a lot more CTR's. Have you checked the ECTRA website for the CTR calendar? I am working on seeing if we can host more endurance rides at Fair Hill in Maryland - we've only done one ride a year for the past couple years. So maybe in 2007 we'll have 2 rides - one spring and one fall, and we'll try to offer LD at both of them. We'll see! Lake Placid as a GOOD 7 hour drive from Fair Hill - I think you're going to have quite a haul no matter where you end up going for rides. But certainly do-able on a three day weekend. Good luck! Hope to run in to you at a ride next year! Alissa =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
